It ain't easy living free when you have such a heavy price to pay
I carried my burdens down the backroads under restless, ragged skies of grey. I've wandered with no map or reason, just chasing down another day, but freedom always has its ransom, and I feel the cost in every way, The way I see it, I might as well say shit and spill all the truth, I gave my life to the thrill, even the tough and raw, ‘cause I lived it any way I could never bow to the norm, It ain't easy living to be old when you’re living the price you pay to make your dreams now these old bones ache every day but I paid the heavy cost to live free and live out my fantasy. Memories in a bottle, dreams in the wind, a lifetime of running from where I began, took my chances, burnt some bridges, bet my soul against the odds again, now the nights grow longer, and the fire in me flickers low, but I’d do it all over just for one more wild road to go,
The way I see it, I might as well say shit and spill all the truth, I gave my life to the thrill, even the tough and raw, ‘cause I lived it any way I could never bow to the norm, It ain't easy living to be old when you’re living the price you pay to make your dreams now these old bones ache every day but I paid the heavy cost to live free and live out my fantasy.
No regrets, memories like shadows, follow me slow, but I’m proud of the scars that show every smile, every tear, and every fight, I’ve wandered roads both bitter and sweet built my truth from shattered dreams pulled myself up from the dirt and dust found the sunrise in every defeat now the years may weigh upon my name but I wouldn’t trade a single day for all the gold that youth could claim, I’d live my story just the same. It aint easy living free, getting old, losing control, learning to feel more than a thrill, and losing touch with all that is real, but that’s the price.
