Living this rock and roll duality is killing me. I want to stay true to myself, but it aint paying the bills. I’m playing this cheap guitar; it’s good for keeping my hands busy, but the rent is coming due
I don’t like playing the blues, but what else is there to do? This Social Security aint paying the bills.
I’ve got them broken life blues and I’m way overdue!
Aint got no gig, aint got no album sales, but I got my 59th birthday coming up, living on a shoestring, 50 cent millionaire lookin for charity just so I can have a birthday present, this aint no complaint, just facing reality
I’ve got them broken life blues and I’m way overdue!
Aponi, sister of mine, I promised you gold, taught you to play those drums, but I sold you a broken dream, and sister, you’ve stayed true to me through it all. I wish I could’ve given you more than these broken life blues.
Sometimes I wonder if tomorrow will bring a little light, but the shadows keep stretching across these empty rooms. The promises I made turned out hollow, echoes fading in the silence where hope used to live. Still, I keep strumming, searching for a melody that might mend these broken life blues.
So, here’s to the dreamers, the drifters, the lost, we carry our burdens, no matter the cost. Aponi, my sister, I wish I could give you more than these broken life blues.
