At 12, I cut grass to learn hard work through blood and sweat to earn my way and at 15, I paid my portion of the bills, never mind the reason why. Now, at fifty-eight, I’ve paid my dues, you can say what you want, but I’ve lived my dues, I put my dime in, I did my time. Yeah, I’m Southern steel, can’t break my will. You can call me crazy, and many docs have, but I never prayed to be saved. I’m Southern steel, I’m Southern blood, forged in the fire of life, every day I rise and live my legacy. At fifty-eight, I’ve paid my dues, you can say what you want, but I’ve lived my dues. Yeah, I’m Southern steel, can’t break my will. Now they’re trying to call this retirement, and yes, I get a government check, but I can’t do it alone, I aint keeping the lights on by myself, I have to live with my sis, my son and daughter to keep our heads above water and some months we come close to drowning, oh this aint the American Dream it’s a nightmare. I’m Southern steel, I’m Southern blood, forged in the fire of life, every day I rise and live my legacy. Yeah, I’m Southern steel!
Rich man, you wish you could be half the man of the woman I am, there’s gravel in my voice, grit running through my veins, this Southern gal has held up the gates of Hell and I never expected a damn thing except what I earned. I’m Southern steel, I’m Southern blood, forged in the fire of life, I’ve risen from the mud. Yeah, I’m Southern steel, can’t break my will, in this game of life, every day I rise and live my legacy! Now my legacy is set in stone, every mile I’ve walked, I’ve made it on my own. You can’t take that from me, it’s my victory, I’m Southern Steel, I’m Southern Blood, forged in the fire of life, forever I’ll stand proud. I’m southern steel, I’m southern blood, forged in the fire of life, forever I’ll stand proud.
