Got pretty little trophies, got little pretty scars you wore them like a badge, you fought through the wars, you had to have your independence, between the asphalt and tall grass you were so tough, but tell me pretty mamma, what is your refuge? Where do you go when the world gets too rough? Where do you find peace, when the going gets tough? You've been through it all, you've come so far but deep down inside, what is your refuge?
You hide behind your smile, you bury your pain you keep it all inside, you don't let it rain but behind those walls, there's a heart that's bruised tell me pretty mamma, what is your refuge? Where do you go when the world gets too rough? Where do you find peace, when the going gets tough? You've been through it all, you've come so far but deep down inside, what is your refuge?
Maybe it's in the arms of a loved one or in the words of a comforting friend, maybe it's in the silence of solitude or in the beauty of nature that never ends. Where do you go when the world gets too rough? Where do you find peace, when the going gets tough? You've been through it all, you've come so far but deep down inside, what is your refuge? So pretty mamma, don't be afraid to show your scars they're just a reminder of how strong you are and when you need a safe place to run to
Just remember, your refuge is always within you.
